Richard A Griffith American Legion Post 324 - Serving The Best in the High Desert
Purpose of The American Legion

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans organization.  A community service organization which now numbers over 3 million members --men and women-- in nearly 15,000 American Legions Posts, Ladies Auxiliary Units,
Sons of the American Legion Squadrons and American Legion Riders Chapters worldwide.  They are organized into 55 Departments; one for each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Phillipines. The American Legion is the nation's oldest and largest Veterans' organization.

Our Mission

The American Legion's primary mission is to help American Veterans and their families, as well as American children and youth.  The United States Veterans Bureau, forerunner of the Veterans Administration (now the Department of Veterans Affairs), was created in 1921 as a result of efforts by the Legion.
The American Legion also authored the first draft of the Serviceman's Readjustment Act, popularly known as the GI Bill of Rights, passed by Congress in 1944.  The Legion continues to press for improved educational, employment and medical benefis for new veterans, and for a complete accounting of all prisoners of war (POWs) and Servicemen/Servicewomen listed as missing in action (MIAs).

Providing assistance and service to the Veterans of the High Desert and their families through the 4 Pillars of the American Legion: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, Children & Youth, Americanism, National Security and community service is our mandate.

Have you served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States of America???   Join us!!!!!
